International Seafarers’ Center

The Seafares’ Home away from Home
To begin with our story about the Seafares we have to start off with our friend, Barbara Harrison. We had been sitting down at the pier of St. Simons for some time enjoying the ships coming by going into the Brunswick port. One day as we are sitting there talking to this lovely lady pictured here we started telling her how much we enjoyed watching the ships go by. It was then that Barbara told us that she worked with the International Seafarers’ Center in Brunswick as a volunteer nurse. She invited us to come to the center to see if we would like to be involved with center. We did go to the center and met the crew there. We were immediately impressed with the whole organization. We were really impressed with their volunteer director, Robert Randall. The whole scene was very well done in a very professional way with a christian connection through out. We have joined the group and have enjoyed working with them. We work at doing what ever is needed to be done. I work mostly as a driver for one of the vans, while Jeanine usually works at the convenience store. We actually have two locations that we can work at: the main location is on Newcastle St. in town and the other location is on Colonels Island.   We hate to leave and look forward to returning to our friends at the I.S.C.
This first Video shows the cargo ship leaving the sound, going past the pier in St. Simons and the port of Brunswick.
This next Video shows us getting ready to go on one of the ships. This video also shows one of the vans I drive. This particular ship was hauling regular cargo. Most of the ships that come into the other port, Colonels Island, are carrying cars from mostly Europe.

Next we have some pictures from another Ship Visit that we made when my son, Doug and Grandson, Luke visited with us in July of 2024.
