Plymouth Historical Museum

 Working at the
PLYMOUTH HISTORIAL MUSEUM as a Guide
This is the front of the Museum which is located on
Main Street in down town Plymouth, Michigan. I worked at the Museum a couple of days a week before we moved to St. Simons Island, GA . My time there was well spent. We have a great group of volunteers that enjoy showing visitors through the history and beginning of the wonderful little town of Plymouth.
We have many displays within the Museum. One of the fun Information area’s is about our two down town shows. At  one time we had the Penniman-Allen and the Penn. We still have the Penn,  that is , however the Penniman-Allen burned down many years ago.

have many displays and rooms of special exhibits, Among the biggest is the Daisy Air Rifle room. The air rifle business was very much a part of Plymouth’s history. At one time, back in the 30’s and 40’s Plymouth was the air rifle capital, with about four manufactures making and selling the special rifle. Daisy Air Rifle ended up being the biggest and was a part of Plymouth until they moved south to Arkansas and are still there, but much smaller.

One of the largest permanent collections is the Lincoln Room. This is a must see display, probably one of the largest around. Actually it was the private collection of Dr. Weldon Petz. The collection was purchased from Dr. Petz in 1998 and he continued to show it  personally for many years. Dr. Petz had been collecting Abraham Lincoln artifacts for most of his life. After Dr. Petz death, Bill Cottrell has picked up and is one of the docents (guides) that can tell you just about all you want to know about the life and presidency of Lincoln.  Pictured below is Dr. Pelz pretending to be shaking hands with Abe. Actually, he is standing next to a full wall mural of the second term inauguration of President Lincoln.
