Music

Welcome to my music pages.

This is going to be an on going portion of this page. I have put this together to try to explain why music has been such an important part of my life. I have always enjoyed music, but I think that one of the first reasons why is that at the early age of 9 or 10 my mother and dad took me to town, Northville,  Michigan, to take piano lessons. My first teacher was Thelma Schnuite. This was the start of a great adventure.

My next encounter was when I was about 13 years old, I got a chance to take lessons on the cornet. My first teacher and later my first band director was Donald Diamond. This took place in Livonia, Michigan in the 1950’s. I played in the Bentley High School  Band. One of the highlights of that experience was that I ended up being president of the band. I never did manage to be the best (first chair), but I did well and enjoyed it.

The next thing that was interesting about my music experiences is when I went into the army. I spent about two years in the service in the 1959 through 1961 time period. It was a very interesting time because I played in the Fort Carson, Colorado post band. I played trumpet and also did some bugle work. I got a chance to travel all around Colorado as a result of my music.

I still enjoy my music, but now in a little different way. I still play a little piano and some guitar, but most of my fun is in listening to some of my favorites. I have some links to  Sinatra and Elvis. You can click on either one of these if you would like to jump ahead. But my favorite is my late and dear friend, Hans Nielsen. He played this tune, on my keyboard, for the last time in January of 2013. This was taped at our condo in St. Simons Island, Georgia.

Hans was someone special to me so I’ve dedicated a page just for him. Click on Hans to go to his page.
Now on to an other level completely:
How about a video of the Grateful Dead ? Here they are singing “Ripple”
